Sponsors 2009
We would like to thank the following sponsors for coming on board and supporting Maker Faire Africa 2009:
Our 2009 Inaugural partner, Butterfly Works.
The International Development Design Summit
MIT’s International Development and Design Summit (IDDS). This event is taking place in the weeks before Maker Faire Africa, follow what’s happening on the IDDS blog.
American Society of Mechanical Engineers
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is about to do some big things in the world around “Engineering for Humanity”. We’re incredibly happy to have them on board, and to have them coming to Ghana for the event.
Butterfly Works
Butterfly Works social design studio, supports Maker Faire Africa from their background of creativity and idealism and experience with organising events and happenings in Africa and Europe with and for creative people. Butterfly has initiated a series of programs which ‘liberate the maker’ in people, from NairoBits in Kenya to ‘Return to Sender’ in emerging economies all over the world. “We believe in the creative potential of every individual”
Inveneo
Inveneo is a unique and special organization. They go into some of the hardest off-the-grid areas in Africa and deploy ICT solutions for education, healthcare, economic development. Their rugged solutions are amazing to see, and they’re a perfect fit to match the incoming “makers” for MFA.
Moving Windmills
William Kamkwamba is one of those amazing success stories coming out of Africa that Maker Faire Africa is here to celebrate and help find more of. He will be attending MFA and his new Moving Windmills Foundation is sponsoring the event. You can find his new, inspiring book here.
Mozilla
When we decided to run a “high tech” section at MFA, Mozilla jumped at the chance to help out. Their team will be doing some hands-on workshops and are a great example of how the open source community in Africa connects to the rest of the world.
AndSpace Labs
A long-time friend of AfriGadget, the team at AndSpace Labs decided to not just sponsor MFA, but to also attend and put on a workshop.
YOU!
Last, but not least, is YOU! We received a fair chunk of donations (approximately $4000) from individuals via the PayPal widget and the MFA t-shirts. We also appreciate everyone who put a badge on their site, or wrote a blog post and Twittered about the event to raise awareness.
Thank you for helping to make this event happen!
