Maker Faire Africa Awards 2010

In Kenya we had a number of award winners, to be posted here soon.

The General Electric award was a special category and was awarded to Robert Mburu who makes ‘Security Masters’ Robert will be going to Bangalore for a week to work with a GE chief scientist as his mentor. Congratulations to Robert Mburu and to Simon Kimani the runner up.

The other awards categories and winners will follow here in the next few days.

2010 ACP Courier Photo Competition
Entries close on 15 September, 2010.

Open to nationals up to 29 years old from the ACP (African-Caribbean-Pacific), the 2010 edition of the ACP. The winner will receive a cash prize of 1000 euros. All eligible photographs will be published on this site, with site visitors rating them to help the Jury select the winners. To learn more about the prize or enter, go to the ACP website here.

Ashoka’s Changemakers award for Women, Tools and Technology
deadline April 14th, 2010

Ashoka’s Changemakers and ExxonMobil’s Women’s Economic Opportunity Initiative, in partnership with the International Center for Research on Women, have launched Women | Tools | Technology: Building Opportunities & Economic Power, a groundbreaking challenge that will identify transformative solutions for promoting women’s economic advancement through technology.

From now until April 14th, 2010, we will look for creative ideas and sustainable approaches by which women in developing countries can access and use the power of technology to expand their economic opportunities, reaching their full potential in the workplace and in their communities.

We invite you to join us in this online open-source challenge!  Enter your own initiative, nominate potential entrants, read entries in real-time, and discuss and collaborate with the community.  Three winners will each receive USD $5,000, and will be featured at a Collaboration Event with Ashoka’s Changemakers and ExxonMobil this summer.

2009 PAN African Awards for Entrepreneurship in Education

The 2009 PAN African Awards for Entrepreneurship in Education (PAN) is open to organizations based in Africa working at all levels of education, from primary through to tertiary, as well as in non-formal education. PAN will award a first prize of $10,000 and two runner-up prizes of $5,000, there are up to 50 awards  of $1,000 for the best entry of each country. The top three award-winners will be sponsored a trip to South Africa for the awards presentation and peer learning visits to key Educating Africa and Teach A Man To Fish partners.  Go to the awardwww.teachamantofish.org.uk/competition

Go Ingenuity Award
The GO Ingenuity Award (GIA) is awarded to artists, inventors, and small business entrepreneurs to stimulate the next generation of “makers.” Building on the momentum of Maker Faire Africa, GO Campaign will award one-year, one-time fellowship grants to individual applicants who are eager to share their skills with marginalized youth in developing countries in ways that educate and inspire youth to harness their own ingenuity.
